Timer

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To ensure that the meeting runs according to schedule and on time.

To time each segment of the meeting as outlined in the Timer’s Report.

To report to the club in a clear, concise manner.

PRIOR TO THE MEETING:

Confer with the Chairperson, Toastmaster, Table Topics Master, and each Speaker to confirm the time required.

AT THE MEETING:

Check the timing equipment to be sure you understand how to operate the timing device and the stop watch. If there is an equipment problem, arrange with the Sergeant-At-Arms for a substitute prior to the start of the meeting.

Familiarize yourself with the lighting sequences for each section and/or participant. (See Table on next page.)

Record each participant’s name and the time they actually used on a piece of paper.

The Business meeting is 5-10 minutes unless other instructions are provided by the Chairperson. Give the Chairperson some warning indication when the time is “running out” so a time extension can be requested from the assembly, if required.

Make your reports when called on to do so, in a clear, concise manner.

If necessary, lead in the applause/clap-down of a speaker who runs overtime.
