“Studies show that fear of public speaking ranks higher than the fear of dying. I guess this means that most people at a funeral would rather be in the coffin than delivering the eulogy…”
Jerry Seinfeld
What is the one thing you fear most?
According to the Book of Lists by David Wallechinsky and Amy Wallace, the majority of people fear public speaking far more than anything else, even death or disease. Surprising? Not for those that have had a speaking disaster. The mere thought of dozens of pairs of eyes all centered around you, watching your every step, your every move and your every mistake can frighten anyone, even the best of public speakers. Because many adults have intense fear and anxiety about public speaking, they often try to avoid situations in which they will be called upon to speak in public, at all costs.
This fear strongly affects an individual’s professional life and possibility for career advancement, with some people even quitting school or a job, or passing up a promotional opportunity if it calls for more public speaking or public performance. This fear also takes a big toll on the person’s self-confidence and self-esteem, as many people feel embarrassed and ashamed to have such a fear. They may look at others who seem comfortable speaking or performing in public and feel bad about the level of fear and discomfort they have, relative to what they perceive others experience.
“Top executives from Fortune 500 companies rate communications skills as the most important quality for business leaders.”

Today’s work tools increase our efficiency but often decrease our effectiveness. When communication really counts we all fall back on the original solution: face-to-face conversation. Toastmasters is the right choice for improving your speaking skill.
At Toastmaster meetings, you get an opportunity to speak week after week, be it a small role or a big speaking assignment, you get that constant practice that gives you an opportunity to hone your speaking skills. Toastmasters produces results. Around the world more than three million men and women of all ages and occupations have benefited from Toastmasters training, and more than one thousand corporations, community groups, universities, associations, and government agencies now use Toastmasters training.
The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self- confidence and personal growth.
At Toastmasters, you’ll learn to relax, plan, and present a terrific speech, whether you have 10 days to prepare – or just 10 seconds. You’ll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason you are – to become better communicators. Speakeasy toastmasters’ is one such club that is dedicated to working towards helping members develop effective oral communication by learning the arts of speaking, listening and thinking.
At Speakeasy Toastmasters, our Wednesday meetings start with the Chairperson opening the session outlining the agenda for the day, followed by the toastmaster raising the toast and opening the floor to the speakers and evaluators. These are formal speeches made from manuals in accordance with the guidelines set out by Toastmasters International. The Evaluators evaluate the speakers based on the objectives set out in the manuals.
After a brief break, the second session commences with the table topics master giving impromptu topics to members who are randomly selected for a two minute speech. This is a fun session and develops an individuals ability to think on his/her feet. After evaluations, an inspirator leaves the audience with an inspiration or thought for the day. The General Evaluator evaluates the overall proceedings for the day praising the meetings strengths while also giving specific suggestions for improvements. Getting an assembled audience to hear you speak as well as getting instant feedback, both positive and constructive is only possible at a Toastmasters meeting. Our sessions round up with the presentation of certificates for the best speakers and evaluators, voted for by the audience.
Anyone will tell you that practice makes you perfect. And perfect is only relative. The more you practice, the better you get. We give you hands-on, face-to-face suggestions-for-improvement style communications training – in a friendly environment. You can’t find this anywhere else besides a toastmasters club.
